Space for Practice is a choreographic movement practice taking place in the rainwater retention basin of the Floating University Berlin. It invites choreographers to explore their current artistic interests in dialogue with the site and with anyone interested to participate. It is a morning practice outdoors, to start the week and cultivate a space for regular peer exchange in times of increasingly fragile structures.

During the first years, Sophia Tabatadze accompanied selected sessions through drawing, which later informed the Space for Practice Publication. It can be purchased as an A0 poster, folded to A4 and enclosed in an envelope. To order a copy, please write to: sabine(at)lovelabours.net

2026

In 2026, Space for Practice is hosted by The Choreographic Milieu.

Space for Practice is a regular movement practice unfolding under irregular circumstances: weather conditions, changing movement proposals, different participants and the many other activities and creatures inhabiting the site. Choreographers meet practitioners, practitioners encounter the Floating University, and the site co-produces the practice. Together, these encounters cultivate exactly what the name promises: a space for practice.

S4P takes place in all conditions and in every kind of weather. We begin punctually at 9:00 a.m. and hold the space together. Every body is welcome, regardless of prior experience with movement practice. What matters is a willingness to engage in a shared process of exploration. We speak English and German and other languages if needed.

Space for Practice has taken place weekly from April to October (including a summer break) and in some years until December (as in 2022).
