Korail – City of Culture ist eine Initiative für nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung und eine Kollaboration zwischen dem Architekturbüro Paraa, dem Goethe Institut in Dhaka, Bangladesch und der Floating University.

Korail-City of Culture definiert die Idee der Design-Kultur und Kreativindustrie neu, besonders in Hinblick darauf, wer, wie und wo Kultur “produziert” wird – und für wen. Das Projekt unterstützt Kulturschaffende, die in Korail leben, arbeiten und spielen darin, eine nachhaltigere Kulturarbeit zu etablieren. Gleichzeitig soll das dabei generierte Wissen zu globalem Lernen und Lehren über nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung wirken.

Im Mittelpunkt des Projektes steht eine Gruppe junger Bewohner*innen von Korail: Das Korail Youth Team. In Zusammenarbeit mit Paraa hat das Korail Youth Team einen Community-Ort entworfen: einen Kultur-Ort zum Spielen mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Zugänglichkeit. In den vergangenen zwei Jahren hat die Gruppe aktiv an dem partizipativen Gestaltungsprozess teilgenommen und Umfragen im Stadtteil gemacht. Darüber hinaus waren sie Teil von diversen Workshops und Trainings und haben hierdurch mehr Wissen um Raummanagement, öffentliche Räume und deren Nutzung erlangt.

Critical Architecture, Design and Sustainable Environments (CADSE) is a programme developed by Paraa, which is structured around a practical case study, resulting in realized projects through the student’s time on the programme. These case studies focus on a live project, placing learning through doing, at the center.

This year, the winter school-CADSE 2024 focuses on KorailPlay, a project by Paraa and Goethe-institute, Bangladesh, working on building an inclusive playspace and cultural hub for the people of Korail, by the people of Korail.

Floating contributed to CADSE with a short manual for self-publishing: „How to Make a Zine?“. During a workshop, participants explored the toolkit and created their own zines.
