DAY OF THE FROGS

June, 26th of 2022

INTRODUCTION

On the first Sunday of the summer, Floating Berlin opens its doors and invites guests, its members and friends to produce and participate in a series of activities, workshops, screenings, and performances.

Descending the concrete path, walking through the trees the Floating wetland unfolds into view. A variety of animals, plants and algae have made this rainwater basin of the former Tempelhof airfield their home and have given rise to a unique landscape: an artificial environment reclaimed by nature, forming a nature-culture site for learning and experimentation. The frogs of Floating are our most prominent co-habitants – this day is dedicated to them.

BE A FROG

In Justina Los and Marco Schmitt’s “BE A FROG” raku workshop, participants are invited to look at the world from a frog’s perspective. From diverse frog ecosystems to biorobots made from frog cells, the diverse frog universe will be explored at the Floating University. In the workshop, participants can make frog sculptures out of clay and fire them in the raku kiln under the guidance of the frog experts.

Marco Schmitt (1976) mediates in his multifaceted art practice with protagonists between reality and utopia and investigates the influences of politics, economics, technology and cultural processes that affect people and nature. At the Floating University he organised holistic “exorcising raku” workshops with Zoë Claire Miller.

Justina Los (1986) is a media artist. Her works are homages to a globally non-functioning social and economic system in which the future belongs only to those who can afford it. Los studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and currently works with the media of video, performance and sculpture.
